Meeting Minutes

I. Sicko showing and upcoming UWHA sponsored Health Care policy forum.

Colin Dauria of Psychiatry and Jasmine Zia of Medicine gave an update on
plans to have a UWHA and AMSA sponsored showing of Sicko on UW campus. No
official date or location has been set as we are working with AMSA to help
make these reservations. There was a discussion on how to promote the event,
the exact format of the event, and what if any policy discussion should occur
with the event. Action plan: there will be a seperate meeting of interested
people to plan and make reservations. More to come.

II. Review of UWHA funds and discussion of transferring all funds to the UW
 Endowment.

    A. Jasmine Zia reviewed current assets, gave a brief summary of current
yields and finance charges vs. UW Endowment, and had a summary of Pros and
Cons of joining the Endowment or keeping money in current accounts.

    B. Concerns related to joining the endowment include loss of flexibility,
lack of a permanent designated account administrator, and the realization that
the $5,000 payed to UWHA per year by the endowment (based on our contribution)
would mostly go to cover current expenses: Garage Party, beginning of the year
welcome event, and food for meetings.

    C. Pros for donating to the endowment - would not need to change names of
people on accounts from year to year, joining the endowment may lead to bigger
return on investment at the expense of increased management fees, and would be
 supporting UW.

    D. After a good discussion those present unanimously decided to not join
the endowment. Gifts could be given on a year by year basis and could include
causes such as - UW Medical Student Clinic, starting a foodbank at HMC ED, or
a contribution to the UW Endowment. It was felt that gifts should be tracked
from year to year to promote a pattern of comitted giving by UWHA

III. Review of survey GME asked UWHA to distribute

UWHA was asked to distribute a survey from OHSU and UW that assesed
Resident attitudes to post-graduate medical education and its environment.
The survey would take about 10-15 minutes to complete and seems similar to
other surveys we are asked to fill out. Those present at the meeting were not
in favor of sending out the survey from UWHA.
