Van Ginger, MD, Urology - Sexual function. Dr. Ginger plans to complete gross anatomic and histological evaluation of cadaveric labia minora samples and compare it to erectile tissues of the clitoral body and bulb to better understand the sexual function of the labia minora.
Carl Koschmann, MD, Pediatrics - Maternal and infant health. Dr. Koschmann will travel to Nome, Alaska, and work with Native women to develop digital storytelling as a communication method to improve pre-maternal health and education in pregnant native Alaskan women.
Atis Muehlenbachs, MD, Pathology - Pregnancy Malaria. Dr. Muehlenbachs has placental samples of pregnancy malaria cases from the Thailand-Burma border which he will process for histological analysis with a goal to develop a histological a grading scheme for pregnancy malaria that is reproducible and can be utilized in interventional trials in different geographical areas.
Yosuke Miyashita, MD, Pediatric Nephrology - Pediatric severe hypertension. Dr. Miyashita will use data from Seattle Children's Hospital to complete a retrospective evaluation of the second-generation calcium channel blocker israpadine used in severe hypertension in a pediatric hospitalized population to determine efficacy and risks.
Eric Walter, MD, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine - Respiratory infection risk. Dr. Walter will use vital statistics records from King County birth certificates and hospital discharge records to compare a cohort of teenagers who have a history of low birth weight with teenagers who had normal birth weight to determine if birth weight is prognostic for hospitalizations due to respiratory infections later in life.
